2008 Rykken-Scull Awards Available For Non-Profits

by Kathryn M. Miller

The late Judge Walter Richard Rykken Jr. of Guerneville, in his last will and testament, established the trust "to make an annual award or awards to qualified non-profit organizations for the benefit of individuals or groups that contribute the most to the alleviation of bigotry and prejudice against gays and lesbians." PFLAG North Bay is the trustee of the Rykken & Scull charitable trust.

To qualify for awards, non-profits must be a 501c3 organization. Non-profits may apply for the awards for themselves and/or to honor other organizations that fit the awards criteria.

To apply for an award of $2,500 or more, please fill out the application online at www.pflag-nb.org & include a letter of why your organization is deserving of an award. You can also write a letter to Rykken & Scull Charitable Trust - PFLAG North Bay, PO Box 337, Ukiah, CA. 95482. The letter should state how the organization has contributed to the alleviation of bigotry towards the LGBT community including past history and future proposals. Please include a copy of your 501c3 IRS letter of determination.

Applications are due August 1, 2008 and awards will be given at our Annual Awards Night on September 13, 2008 (venue to be announced).
